In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, the Special Operat In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, the Special Operators Transition Foundation recognizes and applauds the significant contributions that African Americans have made, and continue to make, to our Nation to ensure we live up to the ideals that were framed in our Declaration of Independence, “that all men are created equal.” The Special Operators Transition Foundation honors Sergeant First Class William Maud Bryant. SFC Bryant distinguished himself while serving as commanding officer of Civilian Irregular Defense Group Company 321, 2d Battalion, 3d Mobile Strike Force Command. His unit came under heavy fire and became surrounded by three enemy regiments, resulting in 34 hours of incessant attacks. SFC Bryant circulated constantly to improve his company’s defense and rally his troops, all under heavy fire. He led multiple patrols outside of the perimeter wire, gathering information and repulsing enemy assaults. In a final patrol to break through the enemy encirclement, and after being severely wounded from intense automatic weapons fire, SFC Bryant directed heavy helicopter and suppressive fire upon the enemy positions, and fearlessly charged an enemy automatic-weapons position, singlehandedly destroying its three defenders. While preparing for a final assault, he fell mortally wounded by an enemy rocket. For the full Congressional Medal of Honor Society listing:

It's #transitiontuesday! While studying medicine d It's #transitiontuesday! While studying medicine during his undergrad, Alden Sims realized that he wanted to practice medicine in the most challenging environment possible. He learned about the Special Forces Medical Sergeant career path in the @usarmy and enlisted following graduation. He spent over 10 years in the US Army, performing a variety of diverse missions with international experience in the Middle East, Asia, and South America. As his next chapter of life approached, Alden learned about the Special Operators Transition Foundation (@specopstf SOTF) and the services they could provide from SOTF's CEO at the time, Robert Kirila. The SOTF has helped Alden communicate the value he brings to organizations, has helped him establish networking opportunities and navigate the interviewing process, as well as negotiate job offers. The SOTF has provided many great mentors and connections for Alden, which has been invaluable. Alden is now enjoying his new career as a Technology Services Optimization Consultant at @deloitte Consulting LLP and hopes he can give back to the SOTF as a mentor helping other transitioning veterans succeed. Please help us in congratulating Alden. 🇺🇸 .

The SOTF team consists of the same high caliber professionals Andrew worked with as a Green Beret, fully dedicated to providing fellows with personal assessments, coaching, and access to networks across a variety of industry partners. In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, the @specopstf re In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, the @specopstf recognizes and applauds the significant contributions that African Americans have made, and continue to make, to our Nation to ensure we live up to the ideals that were framed in our Declaration of Independence, “that all men are created equal.” Vernon Baker enlisted in the @usarmy in early 1941. He was originally turned away due to his race, but persisted in his efforts to join the Army. He went to OCS and received his commission as an officer in the infantry. Shortly afterwards, Second Lieutenant Baker led his unit into combat in Italy in June, 1944 demonstrating outstanding courage and leadership on April 5th and 6th, 1945 by personally destroying multiple enemy installations. He covered the evacuation of the wounded personnel of his company by occupying an exposed position and drawing the enemy's fire. On the following night Lt Baker voluntarily led a battalion advance through enemy mine fields and heavy fire. Lt. Baker's fighting spirit and daring leadership were an inspiration to his men and exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces. Vernon continued to lead his men and fight throughout Europe until the end of World War 2. He went on to serve in the Korean War and retired from the Army in 1968. Vernon joined the @americanredcross after his retirement and transition from the Army. He had a very successful 20 year career leading his “new team” in helping others in their time of need, just as he had in the Army. It took 52 years for this Nation to recognize Vernon’s actions with the Medal of Honor. In 1997, President Bill Clinton awarded the medal to Vernon in a ceremony that awarded the medal to heroes whose awards actions were not adequately recognized due to the racial bias of the times. This world and our Nation are a better place because of men and women like Vernon Baker. We applaud their contributions and the continued effort to break down the barriers that exist and move us all forward.
